There is an underground youth culture with a bold fashion statement rebelling against traditional eastern attire. The following is called Manba and involves followers of the fashion trend to wear extremely dark tans with white make up around the eyes and in most cases wearing many neon colours in their hair.

The style has been adopted by few English teenagers who don’t want to conform to normal fashion trends. Manba in Japanese is thought to be the name of an old mountain hag in Japanese folklore, many people believe this hag is responsible for the bold fashion statement. Manba is not a new craze, it has been around for almost a decade and now is being adopted by teenagers outside of Japan. The darkening of the skin and the other attire such as blue contact lenses and widening their eyes began as a rebellion against natural fair skinned beauty.

The youths who are following this fashion trend in Britain regularly keep in touch via social networking sites to practitioners of Manba in Japan and the USA. A correspondent spoke to the girls father, initially he said he was a little shocked but as he learnt more about the trend he stated “it’s fine as long as they are learning about another culture” The followers all listen to the same style of music called Eurobeat and have a dance called Para-Para. With Britain being so multi-cultural it comes as no surprise that individuals want to experience other cultures and learn about everything from their fashion style to their music. For conventional fashion however you can find henleys jeans, G-Star jeans and fashion from Bench from UrbanJeans.
